The Peter A. Siracuse Foundation has donated or pledged over $95,000 since its inception in October of 2001. The Foundation has established a four year scholarship for a student-athlete at Bethpage High School(Peter's alma mater). A Lacrosse award was also set up at New Hyde Park High School where Peter taught and coached prior to Cantor Fitzgerald. After setting up the scholarship and award the Foundation explored other charitable endeavors where they felt they could make a change. One of these opportunities was establishing an after school reading program in the Friendship School District in upstate New York. This program has grown into sponsoring a number of after school activities in the district including babysitter training, Odyssey of the Mind, and other academic programs that would have not been possible due to budget constraints. The Foundation also has made grants to families in need due to sickness or death. These grants are either used to tied the family over during periods of crisis or used to fund research into a particular illness. The Foundation has donated grants to families of National Guardsmen and Reservists who have been called up to service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Recently, the Foundation has expanded their reach and have pledged to make donations to help fund construction of a youth football field and resurface a baseball diamond. |
